听力原文:W: I' m going over to the recycling center this afternoon. Would you like me to take your old newspaper and paper bags a long?
M: I do have a lot of papers and magazines down on the basement. Volunteers used to come by these apartments regularly to collect waste paper. I still save it but people seldom ask for it nowadays and I' ve never gone over to the recycling center myself.
W: That’s typical. A few years ago people were really enthusiastic about musing waste paper. Unfortunately, interest has been decreasing lately. Manufacturers now use waste paper for things, like paper bags, towels, napkins and boxes. But the demand is down. I think they need to find new commercial uses for recycled paper.
M: I suppose things like greeting cards, calendars and writing paper could be made from it too. But recycled paper usually has a dingy color, doesn't it?
W: Well, it wouldn’t be suitable for art books or high-quality magazine paper. But who cares about the drab color if waste paper can take place of virgin wood pulp and so help to preserve forests. M: You are right. I'll bring my waste paper over to your apartment in a little while. Thanks for offering to take it.
According to the speakers, what products are now made from recycled paper?
A.Paper towels, napkins, bags and boxes.
B.Insulation for basements.
C.Art books and other high-quality printed matter.
D.Imitation wood.

听力原文:W: Hi, Tim. I'm really sorry to hear about your grandfather. My sincerest sympathies go out to you and your family. He was such a great man.
M: Thanks. As you know, he had been sick for some time before he passed away, so we were somewhat prepared.
W: So, how's your grandmother taking it?
M: Oh, it's been really hard on her. I don't think you get over something like that.
W: Yeah, I'm sure. My heart really goes out to her. Uh, so how's your grandmother going to be able to manage things alone?
M: Well, financially, grandmother will be able to live a secure life from now on. I mean, grandfather had life insurance and substantial investments in property and stocks, so returns on those should take care of her. But our main concern at this moment is her emotional state. She's really down, so a call now and again should brighten her day.
W: So, what are the funeral arrangements?
M: Well, some of the family members will get together on Tuesday morning for a private memorial service, but there will be a viewing in the afternoon from 2:00 to 3:00, followed by the funeral service.
W: I wish there was something I could do for you.
M: Well, actually, there is. You know, grandfather really admired you a lot, and before he died, he asked if you'd sing a musical number at the funeral.
W: Really? I'd be honored.
M: It would really mean a lot to the family.
W: Sure. Then, see you on Tuesday.
M: Okay, see you then.

A good night's sleep may help your brain permanently file away lessons learned during the day. But, according to a new study, the brain begins processing and storing those memories long before it's time for bed-and continues to do so even while you're thinking about and doing other things.
Recent studies have shown that the parts of the brain that we use to learn a task become active again during sleep. This activity, scientists suggest, could be the brain transferring memories from short-term to long-term storage.
But the brain doesn't necessarily wait until the lights are out to begin processing those memories.
To find out how the brain handles memories during waking hours, scientists gave 15 volunteers two tasks, each requiring different parts of the brain to learn. In one task, the subjects learned how to navigate a virtual town and then searched the town for an object. In the second task, they learned to predict where a sequence of dots would appear on a screen.
Using a special machine, the researchers scanned the volunteers' brains right before and right after the tasks. They compared the two images to see whether the regions of the brain involved in learning the task were still active even after the task was completed.
After a break, the scientists took a third image of each participant's brain. They wanted to determine whether these regions in the brain continued to be active after snore time had passed.
They discovered that, for at least an hour after learning a task, the brain stays active. It appears to continue processing the new information.
Furthermore, the images showed that distracting the subjects doesn't affect their ability to store memories. The processing continues even when they're thinking about or doing other things.
Some scientists say this could mean that sleep isn't essential for storing memories. Others disagree. Until that's settled, it's probably still better to be on the safe side, getting plenty of sleep.
According to the passage, ______.
A.a good night's sleep helps your brain permanently file away lessons learned during the day.
B.the brain has to wait until the lights are out to begin processing those memories
C.perhaps it's safe for anyone to get plenty of sleep when it has not been proved unnecessary for memory
D.attracting the subjects doesn't affect their ability to store memories.
